Miss Karen's Little Belize Garden Project...
Since we are adding a third unit to The Maine Stay Cabanas, we have had to remove some trees to make room for the project. Not one to be wasteful, Miss Karen decided that these trees... four palms, needed to enhance our Kokomo lots. Peter, from Coco Plum, who is an absolute genius with a backhoe, and has five years experience successfully transplanting these tiny things, came over yesterday and made it all happen... with lots of help from Hector and Alejandro from The Maine Stay crew.

Definitely adds some nice context to my favorite (although a bit dated) description of the Village.

Mayan Ruins, Caves and Waterfalls... The Toledo District
Just a short two hour drive on the Southern Highway are a couple of Maya Ruins, that are well worth exploring. Nim Li Punit was discovered quite recently in 1976 and Lubaantun in 1905 and both are in the Toledo District. Legends around the infamous "Crystal Skull" being discovered at Lubaantun are well known. For the adventurous folks, there are numerous waterfalls and caves to explore in the Toledo District...

Ginger & Heliconia Blossoms... at Miss Emma's
Our neighbor, Kimberly Malega recently visited Miss Emma's Garden and Private Restaurant on the All Pines Road off the Southern Highway (after the Sittee River turn and after Maya Center). She had a delightful day touring the fabulous gardens and farm and a wonderful lunch of garden produce and shrimp. She brought us these gorgeous Ginger blossoms. The cone-like "brack" is really stunning and yesterday had orchid-like flowers protrudng from it... which had passed by today. The orange "Bird of Paradise" look-alike is actually Heliconia (same family) from our garden. Needless to say, we will be making a trip to visit Miss Emma's!
